nula.cc – East By Rail (2017)

  • Avant-garde
  • Experimentalism
  • Drone
  • Ambient
  • Field recording
  • Musique concrète
  • Experimental electronica
  • Epic
  • Avant-electronica
  • Post-industrial
  • Leftfield
  • Sound art
  • Minimalism

Comment: this 3-notch outing is a fine example of how field recording sounds are treated in a way to chime like coming from an eerie street. It gravitates toward a rail station which does mean one can hear metallic ghosts and at the same time epic industrial echoes which will result in the statement this music is uncannily beautiful and ennobling. And purgative by any means. It can be considered life around us we used to encounter every day, however, being strongly magnified and thereafter amplified. Most of us can recognise the charm of Minecraft, this 50 minutes and a bit more can be considered a counterpart of it in sounds in some sense. In some sense with certain reservations because East By Rail is less artificial because this sound art issue comes directly from an interface where life and observation and production are mixed up with one another. You can perceive rough sonic figures being juxtaposed to more fine sonic dimensions. Indeed, similarly to Minecraft it is highly playful which used to resonate with the surrounding sounds. While listening to it you should be aware of the fact which sound comes from the album and which one comes through a window or wall of your apartment. One of the most outstanding releases in 2017 coming from Prague, the Czech Republic.

Pasqualino Ubaldini – Mosaique (2017)

  • World music
  • Easy listening
  • Mood music
  • Latin music
  • Art music

Comment: Pasqualino Ubaldini is an artist and guitarist from Italy who has been releasing his music through Jamendo within the last decade (the guitar is not the only instrument he has been playing. One can hear bagpipes, woodwind instruments etc). Mosaique is a great issue due to both technical and moody aspects which in fact are tightly related to one another. One can encounter arpeggios which make your soul either to soar or feel bittersweet melancholy. However, the latter makes your soul to be filled with lofty feels as well. Ubaldini's script reminds a bit of the one of Simon Jeffres, the leader of the Penguin Cafe Orchestra regardless is it related to world music vibes or not. Indeed, it is highly playful and relaxing. Despite its carnival-alike touch you can feel the sophisticated arrangements behind it. These 37 minutes are truly great delight to enjoy it once, twice and now and then. You hear it as if watching it through an omnipotent kaleidoscope. So yeah, I have experienced synaesthetic impulses while listening to this set of 9 tracks. It will be a notch in the list of the best albums of 2017 at Recent Music Heroes.

Bongley Dead – Undici (2017)

  • Indie rock
  • Alternative rock
  • Glam rock

Comment: Bongley Dead, an Italian combo is back with their brand new one which can be considered a pure revelry and joy. In comparison to their previous outing 4 (2015) it abandoned post-grunge-y smooth mannerisms and reveals its dedication into galvanised, cellophane tinged guitars. Yet through this powerful guitar fuzz one can hear an enchanting glam rock thread which is the lead motif for this 17-notch issue. So let's switch on the electricity and the show is going on. By indirect influences one can hear such combos as Placebo, and Smashing Pumpkins. As I already said indirectly. Solid release indeed.

Erebus Redemption – A Pawn of Darkness (2012)

  • Death metal
  • Brutal metal
  • Extreme metal
  • Electronic
  • Lo-fi
  • Cybermetal

Comment: this set of 12 tracks is as abrasive as an exceptional outing in the roster of Sirona-records used to be. It is overwhelming and suffocating in its excessively powerful leaps and mad steps. Mostly it is death metal with some exceptions into muddy, lo-fi electronic music. The ambience around the listener gets razed and destroyed so think twice if you would like to get into a dirty manifesto of power. It may push on your sinful mind and trigger some unintended emotions. And the cover print is great.

Ale – Seri-Al Rappers (2017)

  • Hip-hop
  • Rap
  • Urban music
  • Electronic music
  • Electro-hop
  • Grime

Comment: these 219 seconds do slam and jump up within playful electro-hop/grime beats by moving from right to left from atop downwards. It is the vivid backdrop to Italian lyrics being recited also in a playful manner. Although I have no idea what it is all about. The track is a part of the Italian imprint Yo! Netlabel. Highly appreciated.
